baryte crystal
Product Features:
Drilling grade barite are produced from natural barium sulfate ores.Commonly used as a weighting agent for all types of drilling fluids in oiland gas exploitation.
Our drilling barite manufactured to meet or exceed all APl 13 Arequirements.
This grade also can be used in the applications which high purity but lowwhiteness requirements.
Baryte Crystal (Barite)
Baryte, also spelled barite (BaSO₄), is a naturally occurring mineral composed of barium sulfate. Renowned for its high specific gravity and radiant luster, baryte often forms striking tabular or prismatic crystals that can appear in a range of colors—including white, blue, yellow, gray, and even transparent—depending on impurities and geological conditions.
Key Characteristics:
High Density: Among the heaviest non-metallic minerals (specific gravity ~4.5)
Crystal Habit: Typically forms in tabular, blade-like, or blocky crystals; also found in rosette and radiating aggregates
Color & Transparency: Ranges from colorless and transparent to pale blue, yellow, or brown
Luster: Vitreous to pearly, giving crystals a brilliant visual appeal
Hardness: 3–3.5 on the Mohs scale
Geological & Collector Value:
Geological Indicator: Often found in lead-zinc veins, hot spring deposits, and sedimentary rocks
Collector’s Favorite: Highly prized for its aesthetic crystal formations and wide color spectrum
Global Sources: Notable specimens come from Morocco, China, Peru, the USA (especially Colorado), and the UK
Applications:
While baryte crystals are valued primarily for their beauty and rarity in the mineral world, baryte itself also plays a major role industrially:
Oil & Gas Drilling: Finely ground baryte is used as a weighting agent in drilling fluids
Medical & Radiology: In purified form, used as a contrast agent in X-ray imaging
Pigments & Plastics: Serves as a filler due to its brightness and chemical stability
Application Areas:
◆Oil drilling ◆Friction materials ◆Rubber ◆Radiation wall
