Why are barites black and white?

Precipitated barium sulfate should be close to neutral. If it is alkaline, it may neutralize with acid and reduce the catalytic effect of acid. Because the amount of acid added is large, MEK will decrease. In addition, the test of boiling resistance may not pass. The reason is that the cross-linking degree and cross-linking density of the paint film are poor after the acid catalysis effect is reduced. Now, many light calcium is added. It may be alkaline and react with the catalyst. Affecting storage performance, this has appeared in general industrial coatings for a long time, and it is generally the way of heavy calcium posing as barium sulfate. Cut corners and test the oil absorption, the oil absorption of barium sulfate around 1200 mesh is 13-14. Heavy calcium 17--24 alone. The light calcium is more than 44, and the oil absorption of more than 15 should be very problematic. The precipitated barium sulfate produced by our company is not like this. It has good stability, neutrality and low oil absorption. The above phenomena and characteristics are obviously adulterated.

Powder coatings are one of the fastest growing markets in the coatings industry. Due to the special properties of precipitated barium sulfate, low binder requirements and excellent dispersion, it is an indispensable component of powder coatings. The specific gravity of precipitated barium sulfate is as high as that of titanium dioxide, thus giving us the opportunity to formulate non-flying powder coating formulations, even when using fine powders. The mechanical properties of precipitated barium sulfate filled powder coatings in typical powder coating formulations are related to particle size (the finer the better).

Precipitated barium sulfate is produced by a new sulfuric acid method, which is reacted with barium carbonate and sulfuric acid to generate ultra-fine precipitated barium sulfate. Modified by coupling agent, various parameters are strictly controlled in the process, and the crystal particles are uniform after multi-stage filtration. The product has the characteristics of narrow particle size distribution, acid and alkali resistance, no sulfide, no odor, no black spot impurities, high whiteness, large specific surface area, good dispersion, high transparency, high gloss, and good suspension. It can be widely used in various coatings, ink pastes, and modified plastics, and can significantly improve the surface gloss, color rendering, anti-settling, thixotropy, and water resistance of products, thereby reducing costs.

Barite is a very common mineral, the main component is barium sulfate. Although my country's barite minerals are abundant, some naive barites are also slowly depleting. Many friends have sent messages to ask why some barites are black and some are white, and not only the color, There are also great differences in other respects. We will answer today about the color difference of barite. Why are barites black and white?

The gloss of the color of barite powder is actually mainly determined by the content of BaSO4 in it. If the BaSO4 content is high, our common white color will appear. If the barite BaSO4 content is low, it will appear more yellowish or even blackish. The level of this content cannot be equated with whether it is useful or not. Whether it is useful or not depends on which aspect the barite powder is used for.

Why is barite black and white? If it is black barite powder, it is used in oil field drilling. White barite powder is used when barite with higher purity is required in industry.
